This class is taught along with Occ. Math III. We're learning about money, jobs, budgeting, and measurement. The class begins with practice on basic operations, measurement and word problems and is later run as an economy in which each student earns minimum wage (play money!) for performing as a student should. We look at grocery fliers, local apartment listings, used car publications, etc., and spend a lot of effort trying to figure out how to live in the community on $5.15 an hour. We pay bills, balance budgets, and "get paid" weekly. We also are learning how to stretch a dollar and not get caught in the credit card trap.
